The Canada Greener Homes Grant will help homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient, create new jobs across Canada for energy advisors, grow our domestic green supply chains and fight climate change.
Yvonne Jones, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Northern Affairs and Member of Parliament for Labrador, today announced funding for the following three CERRC projects on the Northern coast of Labrador.
The Clean Energy in Rural and Remote Communities (CERRC) program supports projects across Canada to reduce the reliance of rural and remote communities on fossil fuel for heat and power. This program also supports community-level capacity building to increase clean energy opportunities, including renewables and energy efficiency, and contribute to reducing diesel reliance in rural and/or remote communities.
The Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) in Mine Tailings project will advance new technologies for mineralizing CO2 captured from air and flue gas within the mineral waste stream of mine operations. This will sequester CO2 as a stable and benign carbonate and achieve a net reduction in the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of mine operations.
Canada welcomed over 25 countries to the 10th Clean Energy Ministerial and 4th Mission Innovation Ministerial where countries discussed progress toward advancing the development of global clean energy policy, technology and innovation. Canada outlined principles to achieve a cleaner energy future, while promoting sustainability, resilience and energy security. These aims include the need to be inclusive and harness the leadership of women, Indigenous peoples and youth in developing the most innovative solutions.
Project summaryThe Haida Gwaii Clean Energy Project seeks to transition the island to 100 percent renewable energy using a multi-phased approach. The Clean Energy for Rural and Remote Communities program will fund Phase 1 of this project, which has two distinct stages. Local training programs as well as community energy literacy will be incorporated in each aspect of the project.
