The Government of Canada is taking concrete action to protect, conserve and manage Canada’s marine environment by investing in nature-based solutions such as marine protected areas and other effective conservation measures. In response to a growing body of international scientific research about the measures needed to address biodiversity loss and global climate change, we are committed to increasing the conservation of Canada’s oceans to 25 per cent by 2025, working towards 30 per cent by 2030.

The Government of Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia are pleased to announce funding of more than $10.3 million for 12150484 Canada Inc., a subsidiary of Ocean Choice International Inc. The funding – with a total contribution of $10,339,504 – will support adopting some of the most advanced state-of-the-art processing and packaging equipment available.
The Government of Canada, the Northwest Territories, and the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador and British Columbia are pleased total funding of $8,596,200 for eight projects. The last six years have been the warmest on the planet. The forest fires in British Columbia in 2017 and 2018 burned a record number of hectares. All other factors related to the decline of salmon are embedded in the global climate change driver. We must act now to save Pacific salmon.
The Pacific Salmon Strategy Initiative (PSSI) aims to curb historic declines in key Pacific salmon stocks and rebuild the species to a sustainable level. The Strategy will be a massive undertaking, unlike any before. It will not be a series of initiatives, but a single, guiding force that will steer investments, policies, and actions, with all levels of government and local organizations, for years to come.
The Moncton Atlantic Science Enterprise Centre (ASEC) is a multi-disciplinary science facility being redeveloped on the site of the Gulf Fisheries Centre, integrating key heritage elements of the existing structure.
The Fisheries and Aquaculture Clean Technologies Adoption Program is a federal initiative encouraging the adoption of green technologies in the fishing and aquaculture industry. The program provides $20 million over four years to help businesses adopt new, clean technologies into their operations.
