The Government of Canada is committed to supporting Canadians as all orders of government work together during the 2023 wildfire season. Across Canada, several provinces and territories are experiencing a severe wildfire season, and the effects are already widespread. The Government Operations Centre is working to coordinate the federal response to the wildfire situation across the country. Officials are working closely with federal and provincial partners to coordinate this assistance.
Under the Accord Acts, the federal and provincial governments have worked together under a joint management regime, sharing regulatory oversight of offshore energy resource development through joint Boards, the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) and the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board (CNSOPB).
The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, announced a total investment of $13,645,449 in 30 projects to install up to 1,908 Level 2 and 100 Level 3 EV chargers, with the majority located in Ontario. Project details are included in the table below, with funding through Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) and Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative.
On May 17, 2023, Julie Dabrusin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, on behalf of the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources Canada, announced a combined federal investment totalling nearly $5.9 million in 28 organizations across Canada to undertake zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) awareness projects. These projects will help Canadians know about the clean options available when choosing their next vehicle.
The following initiatives have been approved for funding through the Green Municipal Fund (GMF), which is funded by the Government of Canada and delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).Funding for these 18 initiatives amounts to $1,559,375

The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources, announced a total investment of $18,531,882 for 26 projects to install up to 2,416 electric vehicle (EV) chargers, more than 1,880 of which will be installed across the Greater Vancouver Area.
Sean Fraser, Member of Parliament for Central Nova and Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, on behalf of the Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, announced that registration has opened for the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (OHPA) Program in Nova Scotia. Eligible homeowners can receive up to $5,000 in federal support from this program in addition to up to $5,000 from the Canada Greener Homes Grant (CGHG), and further support from the Province of Nova Scotia. Registration for Nova Scotia is through the provincial program delivered by EfficiencyOne.
The Program helps low-to-median-income Canadian households that are currently heating their homes with oil to transition to electric cold-climate heat pumps. By switching, homeowners can receive up to $10,000 in federal support toward the purchase and installation of a new cold-climate heat pump, save thousands of dollars annually on heating bills and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
