The Government of Canada is making our oceans healthier, cleaner and safer than ever, thanks to the $1.5 billion Oceans Protections plan. The Canadian Coast Guard’s two new Channel Survey and Sounding Vessels (CSSVs) will support the ongoing commitment to ensure the safety of mariners in Canada as they serve as the platform for the Canadian Hydrographic Service’s Channel Survey Program. The program collects information about channel conditions and water depth of the St. Lawrence waterway to assist in safe navigation.

Sarnia, Ontario - The Canadian Coast Guard wishes to advise the public that its Inshore Rescue Boat (IRB) stations in Ontario are wrapping up their seasonal maritime search and rescue service. The Coast Guard's IRB stations are located at Britt, Brebeuf Island, Hill Island, Port Lambton, Thames River and Long Point. These stations open each May and will be operational until Wednesday, September 5, 2018.

The Canadian Coast Guard is nearing the mid-way point of its 2018 Arctic operational season, which runs into November. All seven scheduled vessels have been deployed to the Arctic, the last being the CCGS Terry Fox, which departed Montreal on August 27 to conduct icebreaking assistance in the Northwest Passage. The CCGS Amundsen is another Coast Guard asset in the Arctic that is on a dedicated Arctic Net science program.

Terry Beech, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, was in Victoria, B.C. today to open a new Canadian Coast Guard search and rescue station, and to announce details of two new Coast Guard lifeboats that will be stationed on the West Coast. Mr. Beech made the announcements on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard.
