Minister Emerson Appoints Dr. Stephen McClatchie to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada

OTTAWA, April 11, 2005 -- The Honourable David L. Emerson, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), today announced the appointment of Dr. Stephen McClatchie to the Council. "I am pleased to welcome Dr. McClatchie as a member of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council," said Minister Emerson. "This Council is crucial to helping develop Canada's knowledge capacity surrounding social sciences and humanities, which is essential for innovation. His academic background and depth of experience will be an asset to the Council." Dr. McClatchie is presently the Associate Vice-President (Academic) at the University of Regina, while at the same time holding the positions of Associate Professor of Music at the University of Regina, and adjunct Associate Professor of Music History at the University of Western Ontario. He has published several books, journal articles and reviews in his field of study, and has given numerous paper presentations, lectures and talks in the area of music and music history. Dr. McClatchie holds a Doctorate in Systematic Musicology from the University of Western Ontario. SSHRC is an independent federal government agency that funds university-based research and graduate training through national peer-review competitions.
