PETERBOROUGH, Ontario, February 9, 2007 - On behalf of the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament (Peterborough) today announced funding of $60,000 for the Peterborough New Dance and Public Energy. This funding will support the group's 2007-2008 season, which will feature theatre and dance as part of its summer programming.
"Canada's New Government is pleased to support organizations like the Peterborough New Dance and Public Energy, which gives Canadians a chance to see high-quality artistic performances," said Minister Oda.
"I am proud that our Government is supporting the Peterborough New Dance and Public Energy," said Mr. Del Mastro. "I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the organization for the excellent work it has done to assure the cultural and economic vitality of the region."
"This support from the Department of Canadian Heritage comes at a critical time in the development of Peterborough New Dance and Public Energy, as it will broaden the range of performing arts we engage in, and further our national reputation for adventurous, innovative programming that moves minds as well as bodies," said Bill Kimball, Artistic Producer, Peterborough New Dance and Public Energy.
Peterborough New Dance and Public Energy is a well-established multidisciplinary presenter of contemporary dance that has recently expanded its repertoire to include theatre. Known for its top-notch local and international programming, this organization is a partner of Native Earth Performing Arts and Trent University.
Canada's New Government has provided funding through the Arts Presentation Canada program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
