FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CALGARY , Alberta — Students from across Calgary came to the Service Canada Centre for Youth’s annual job fair today to learn about the more than 1000 innovative and interesting employment opportunities currently available for young people in the city. The Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, attended the fair and met with some of the more than 30 employers who were there to showcase summer employment opportunities in the Calgary region.
“Canada’s New Government is committed to improving learning opportunities for young Canadians so they can prepare for their futures, and as part of an ongoing effort to create a strong and productive workforce,” said Minister Solberg. “Events like these allow students to meet industry experts and leaders in some of Canada’s fastest growing fields. These experts will serve as mentors and help young people recognize the value of their skills.”
The job fair also provides employers with the opportunity to find enthusiastic summer help and is just one way to highlight the importance of getting that first job, or finding career-related work experience.
"The Service Canada Centre for Youth job fair offers a great occasion for us to meet potential employees," said Kelly Killick-Smit of the Calgary Zoo. "It is important to find the right individuals to fill our positions and with so many students attending this job fair, it certainly gives us that chance."
