FedNor is partnering with Northern Ontario Community Futures to help small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) access funding to hire youth interns for a one-year period. The initiative will enable SMEs in the region access a qualified and talented workforce while providing young graduates from Northern Ontario with that crucial first job experience.
Businesses with less than 500 employees located within Northern Ontario.
Businesses can access up to 50 percent – to a maximum of $31,500 – of eligible costs (salary and employee benefits, professional/businesses skills development and related travel) for up to 12 months for a full-time position. Activities to be delivered by the youth interns must be in the area of innovation, information and communication technology or export and trade.
Young people being considered for an internship must:
- Be unemployed or underemployed (under the age of 30);
- Have graduated within the last three years from a recognized post-secondary institution;
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Have not previously participated as a youth intern through FedNor or in any other federal or provincial internship program with pay for a period of six months or more; and
- Not be related to the directors, officers or managers of the organization.
