The Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick recognize that strategic investments in public infrastructure are vital to building dynamic, healthy communities and creating good middle-class jobs.

• This funding is part of the first phase of Investing in Canada, the Government of Canada’s historic plan to support public infrastructure across the country. 

• The Government of Canada will provide more than $180 billion in infrastructure funding over 12 years for public transit, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, transportation that supports trade, and Canada’s rural and northern communities.

• The governments of Canada and New Brunswick are each contributing $3.3 million to this project through the Small Communities Fund, under the New Building Canada Fund. The Town of Richibucto will also provide $3.3 million, bringing the total municipal-provincial-federal investment to $9.9 million. 

• Budget 2017 proposes $21.9 billion to support social infrastructure in Canadian communities.

• These investments complement the Atlantic Growth Strategy, a 2-year federal-provincial action plan aimed at stimulating economic growth in the region through five priority areas: 

  - Skilled workforce/Immigration;

  - Innovation;

  - Clean growth and climate change;

  - Trade and investment;

  - Infrastructure.
