Governments of Canada and Ontario invest in public transit in Huntsville

News Release

Huntsville, Ontario, December 13, 2017—Investing in public infrastructure supports efficient, affordable and sustainable transit services that help Canadians and their families get to work, school and essential services on time and back home safely at the end of a long day. The governments of Canada and Ontario are making investments that will help create well-paying jobs and grow the middle class now while building a strong foundation for a sustainable economic future.

The Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities; the Honourable Glenn Thibeault, Ontario Minister of Energy and Member of Provincial Parliament for Sudbury, on behalf of the Honourable Steven Del Duca, Ontario Minister of Transportation; and His Worship Scott Aitchison, Mayor of the Town of Huntsville, today announced funding for improved transit infrastructure for the town of Huntsville.

The Government of Canada is providing $51,000 towards the project, through the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund, with the municipality providing the balance of funding.

Work includes improving the structure and integrity of sidewalks connected to Huntsville bus stops and passenger waiting areas. These improvements will provide better access and safer travel for transit users, while also supporting the growth of Huntsville’s public transit system.

This investment is part of an agreement between Canada and Ontario for the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund.
