Statement by the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne on the Gordie Howe International Bridge project receiving IJGlobal Award for Road Deal of the Year

Statement

March 15, 2019        Ottawa, Ontario        Infrastructure Canada

“I am very pleased to congratulate the key players in the Gordie Howe International Bridge project, led by Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority, whose work in delivering this monumental project was recognized as the Road Deal of the Year 2018 by the IJGlobal Project Finance and Infrastructure Journal.

“The bridge is a once in a generation project and the first international, private-public partnership in the Canadian market.

“The Gordie Howe International Bridge project will provide thousands of jobs and contracts for local workers and service providers in Canada and the United States during the construction and operation phases of the bridge.

“Canadians deserve to live and grow in communities that thrive thanks to investments in modern infrastructure. Better bridges and highways mean safer and shorter commutes and a more sustainable environment. Investing in infrastructure is also an investment in the economy, and a strong collaboration with the United States is a key factor in our economic success.

“This project is moving forward with a world-class team to deliver it, benefitting the Canadian economy, and the residents and business owners in Windsor-Essex and Detroit who have for so long wanted to see this project become a reality.

“My congratulations once again to all those who continue to work to make this project a reality.”
