Boxing great George Dixon (1870-1908) recognized by the Government of Canada as a Person of National Historic Significance

Andy Fillmore, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry and Member of Parliament for Halifax, will take part in a Parks Canada and Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada plaque unveiling ceremony to commemorate the national historic significance of George Dixon (1870-1908).
George Dixon is widely regarded as one of the top boxers of the late 19th century. Renowned for his stamina, speed, and defence, he overcame racial prejudice and discrimination to become the first Black boxer and first Canadian to win a world title.
Fillmore will make the announcement on behalf of the Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, Steven Guilbeault.
