- economic and social sciences,

- the humanities,
- engineering, and
- technology development.
Eligibility
The applicant must:
- be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada,
- be a resident of Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon, or Inuit Nunangat (henceforth referred to as northern residents) for 3 or more years at the time of the application,

The term "North" for purposes of this Program refers to the three Canadian territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut) and Inuit Nunangat. Inuit Nunangat extends across the Canadian territories and includes Nunavik (Quebec) and Nunatsiavut (Newfoundland).
Review process
Applications are reviewed by a multi-disciplinary committee. Applications must be written in plain language.
The review committee will consider:
- the quality of the application,
- the applicants' interest and commitment to polar scholarship,
- the project information-sharing activities,
- the referee assessment, and
- how the project will help Polar Knowledge Canada archive its mandate.
Apply
Before applying, read the Program guidelines and instructions carefully.
There are two parts to the application:
- the application form, and
- the referee assessment.
Polar Knowledge Canada must receive both parts before the deadline.
To apply, you must create an account on the Polar Knowledge Canada Online Application and Reporting site. Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email. Use your account to submit your application and track the progress of your referee assessments.
You can apply to more than one scholarship or award through the Polar Knowledge Canada Online Application and Reporting portal. You will need a separate application for each scholarship or award.
Notifications will only be sent to successful candidates. Successful candidates must provide proof of registration in a full-time recognized university program.
Apply for the POLAR Northern Resident Award.
Referee assessment
On your application, you will be asked to enter the name and contact information of one (1) instructor or supervisor related to your research. This individual will serve as a referee.
This referee will need to complete the online referee assessment form as part of your application.
In the application form, you will enter your referee's contact email. The system will generate an invitation asking the referee to connect and complete a referee assessment. Once your referee is connected, they can read your application and will be asked to complete a section called the referee assessment.
Polar Knowledge Canada will update your account when the referee assessment form is received.
Application due date
