Fentanyl seizures by the United States Customs and Border Patrol at the Canada-U.S. border Represent less than 0.1% of U.S. fentanyl seizures between 2022 and 2024.

Data from United States Customs and Border Protection show that, between the 2022 and 2024 fiscal years, only 59lbs of fentanyl were seized at their Northern border, while 61,900lbs were seized at their Southwest border.


In addition, Canada has increased its focus on fentanyl law enforcement, leading to the seizure of 101.8lbs and 15,765 pills of fentanyl and other synthetic opioids being taken out of our streets and communities.

This work, supported by a 56% increase of RCMP personnel present at land borders and ports of entry, and the Canada Border Services Agency’s targeted operations to intercept fentanyl and its precursor chemicals, is leading to more criminal investigations and safer communities.

Operation Blizzard, Canada Border Services Agency’s targeted operation, is designed to intercept fentanyl and illegal precursors from entering and leaving the country. Actions in February 2025, which included 6 seizures, led to 56 grams being seized.


A strong Canada needs strong borders. Tackling fentanyl also requires stopping cross-border crime, drug trafficking and irregular migration. Canada’s border security plan plays a key role in stopping the flow of fentanyl by limiting illegal migration.

Monthly illegal crossings from Canada to the U.S. have rapidly declined, down by 90% from peak 2024 levels.

Recent Canadian data shows that June 2024, there were 3,437 monthly illegal crossings from Canada to the United States. That number was down to 359 monthly illegal crossings – a 90% decline.


Irregular asylum claims in Canada have rapidly declined, down 77% in 2024 when compared to the same period in 2023.

In 2022, Canada had approximately 40,000 irregular asylum claims. Those numbers were down to approximately 17,000 in 2023 and dropped even further to only 3,500 in 2024.
