About us
The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) is forming an external expert advisory committee to provide high-quality, impartial, and timely scientific advice on the Agency's science and research agenda. This advisory committee will consist of specialists in various fields, including public health, epidemiology, genomics, health communication, social sciences, health policy, and more. The committee's work will be documented in published reports, statements, and updates that reflect the comprehensive evaluations and consensus of its members.
Scientific advice from the Committee is primarily requested directly by PHAC Chief Science Officer, Chief Public Health Officer, or President. It could span a range of science issues, including:
- Science planning: providing critical assessment and guidance on agency wide proposed scientific agendas, initiatives, and priorities.
- Science and strategic foresight: offering foresight on emerging scientific trends and opportunities for positioning PHAC within the domestic and international science and public health ecosystem.
- Knowledge mobilization: providing guidance on mobilization of scientific findings into actionable public health policies and practices.
- Innovation and direction: enabling and guiding innovative approaches in public health science and research.
- Health equity promotion: promoting the explicit consideration of health equity in all science advice.
Additionally, topics may derive from the Agency's Science Strategy, including scientific guidance on implementation considerations and effective strategies to engage people with lived experience and the public in PHAC’s science activities.
