National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI)

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) is a national committee that makes recommendations for the use of vaccines currently or newly authorized for use in humans in Canada.  This includes the identification of groups at risk for vaccine-preventable disease for whom vaccine programs should be targeted. NACI recommendations on vaccine use in Canada are published in the Canadian Immunization Guide. Additional statements and updates with evidence-based recommendations are published in the Canada Communicable Disease Report (CCDR). NACI also advises on the need for national vaccination strategies and makes recommendations for vaccine development research.

The Committee works with staff of the Centre for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases of the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to provide ongoing and timely medical, scientific and public health advice. It reports to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, PHAC.

The Committee consists of twelve voting members at any one time.  Members are appointed by the Assistant Deputy Minister of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control and are nominated through suggestions from current and former NACI members.

The chair will appointed by the Assistant Deputy Minister upon recommendation of the Director General of the Centre for Immunization & Respiratory Infectious Diseases. Selection will be based on expertise and knowledge in relevant fields.  The Chair is a non-voting member, except when there is a tie vote.
