Formative Evaluation of the Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative
Appendix A: CHVI Logic Model
A logic model (such as the Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative logic model) is a schematic overview of program elements showing what the program is supposed to do, with whom and why. The following is a description of the Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative (CHVI) logic model.
CHVI links with public health via intersectoral collaboration as well as knowledge development and transfer.
CHVI main activities are:
- collaborating within the CHVI, with key organizations in Canada and LMICs and international bodies;
- developing HIV vaccine policy, regulatory and community involvement approaches;
- funding an NPC to build pilot scale manufacturing capacity for HIV vaccine clinical trial lots;
- developing/designing RFPs/RFAs;
- conducting HIV vaccines discovery/social research and buiding clinical trials capacity.
The main outputs of CHVI are various requests for proposals, agreements, frameworks, reports, committes, and strategic alliances.
In the short term (1 to 5 years), the expected outcomes of CHVI are:
- increased and improved collaboration and networking;
- enhanced knowledge base;
- increased readiness and capacity in Canada and LMICs.
The intermediate (6-10 years) outcomes of the program are to have the pilot scale HIV vaccines clinical trial lot manufacturing facility being fully operational and globally accessible, as well as strengthening the contribution to global efforts to accelerate the development of safe, effective, affordable and globally accessible HIV vaccines.
Finally, the long term (11-15 years) outcome of CHVI is to have the program contribute to the global efforts to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS particularly in LMICs.
