Learn how Ebola is diagnosed and treated.
On this page
How is Ebola diagnosed?
Ebola is diagnosed based on:
- travel history
- laboratory testing
How is Ebola treated?
There is currently no specific licensed treatment for Ebola. Patients are treated for their symptoms. Treatment includes:
- supporting blood pressure and oxygen delivery
- ensuring proper fluid and electrolytes levels (necessary minerals for the body)
- strict isolation in an intensive care unit to prevent the disease from spreading to others
Some people who get Ebola are able to recover without treatment. However, up to 90% of Ebola patients die. The sooner you get treatment, the better your chances for recovery.
