National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI)
STATEMENT ON INFLUENZA VACCINATION FOR THE 2006-2007 SEASON
VOL. 32, ACS-7, 15 JUNE 2006

On page 15, under Contraindications and precautions, the second paragraph incorrectly states

Persons with known IgE-mediated hypersensitivity to eggs or chicken (manifested as hives, swelling of the mouth and throat, difficulty in breathing, hypotension or shock) should not be routinely vaccinated with influenza vaccine. Egg- or chicken allergic individuals who are at risk of complications of influenza should be evaluated by an allergy specialist, as vaccination might be possible after careful evaluation, skin testing, and graded challenge or desensitization.

Instead it should read:

Persons with known IgE-mediated hypersensitivity to eggs (manifested as hives, swelling of the mouth and throat, difficulty in breathing, hypotension or shock) should not be routinely vaccinated with influenza vaccine. Egg-allergic individuals who are at risk of complications of influenza should be evaluated by an allergy specialist, as vaccination might be possible after careful evaluation, skin testing, and graded challenge or desensitization.
