Statement

Canada Post’s President and Chief Executive Officer announces retirement

September 8, 2026 - Gatineau, Quebec

Today, the Honourable Joël Lightbound, Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement and Quebec Lieutenant, issued the following statement:

“Today, I am announcing the launch of an open, competency-based selection process for the position of President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Canada Post Corporation.

Canada Post is at a pivotal moment. Following the successful negotiation of a new agreement with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and the measures I announced in September 2025, the corporation has found much needed stability. These steps provide a foundation for Canada Post to adapt, innovate, and build an institution that continues to deliver the services Canadians rely on, while responding to the changing ways Canadians connect.

The next President and CEO will play a critical leadership role in continuing the implementation of these measures, while also steering the course for further transformation.

The Government of Canada is seeking a leader who can execute an ambitious vision while strengthening Canadians’ confidence in Canada Post, leading the corporation through a transformation that embraces new technologies, responds to changing demographics, and positions Canada Post to serve Canadians in the 21st century.

Mr. Doug Ettinger, the current President and CEO of Canada Post, has led the corporation since 2019. Mr. Ettinger’s term as President and CEO comes to an end on March 3, 2027, and he will remain in his role until a successor is appointed, ensuring a smooth transition. I thank Mr. Ettinger for his dedication to Canada Post over the past 10 years, and I extend my best wishes for a well-deserved retirement.

The Notice of Appointment Opportunity is now available on the Governor in Council Appointments website. I encourage qualified candidates from across the country who are ready to lead one of Canada’s most complex organizations through this important transformation to apply by October 6, 2026.”
