Lessons learned and corrective actions

We learned important lessons during the year:

Leadership - In the absence of mandatory inclusion of sustainable development (SD) clauses in performance agreements, we anticipate that SD clauses that speak directly to how an area can use its function to advance SD within the CRA demonstrates applicability more clearly—therefore making it more likely for them to be voluntarily included in the performance agreements of the Executive/Cadre Group.

Continuity and integration - We confirmed the importance of institutionalizing key SD initiatives to ensure continuity. This is particularly true for learning, recognition, and integrating SD into decision-making. As such, we will intensify our efforts to streamline SD into both established and new organizational instruments and processes.

Performance measurement - Despite the challenges posed by the unavailability and timeliness of SD performance data, we will augment the pace of establishing results for all 22 targets of the strategy. Our main approach is to use existing databases, and plug into new ones as they are being developed.

SD management - Strengthening the Sustainable Development Network has always been an area of focus of successive SD strategies. For the next period, we will look more closely at the resource capacity of the Network vis-à-vis demands of the SD file, to narrow/eliminate gaps.
