Businesses in this sector are mainly engaged in retailing a general line of basic hardware items, such as tools and builders’ hardware. This sector includes the following:

  • builders' hardware, retail
  • carpenters' tools, retail
  • door locks and lock sets, retail
  • fasteners (not for clothing), retail
  • furniture and cabinet fittings, retail
  • hand edge tools, retail
  • hand tools, retail
  • hardware stores selling mainly to businesses, but also selling to individuals
  • hardware stores, retail
  • power-driven hand tools, retail
  • sandpaper store, retail
  • selling of other product lines, such as paint, housewares and garden supplies, that are not normally arranged in separate departments
  • tools and builders' hardware, retail
  • welding equipment and supplies, retail
  • welding machinery, equipment and supplies selling mainly to businesses, but also selling to individuals

The Canada Revenue Agency will consult with industry associations to explain the Industry Campaign Approach and to ask for their input on the campaign’s correspondence. Letters will be sent to tell people about common mistakes and to give tips, along with links to Canada.ca where support can be found. More information will be available later.
