Pay by scheduled pre-authorized debit (PAD) through CRA online services – Payments to the CRA

You can schedule one or more future payment(s) from your chequing account through CRA's secure online services by creating pre-authorized debits (PAD).

Many banks or credit unions also let you set up future payments.

How to pay the amount you owe

Pre-authorized debit (PAD) is a secure, online self-service payment option for individuals and businesses to pay their taxes and other amounts due. You set the payment amount and authorize the CRA to withdraw it from your Canadian chequing account on the date, or dates, you choose.

In CRA online secure services

Your selected first payment date must be at least 5 business days from the date you create your PAD agreement. See public holidays for a list of non-business days.

Create a pre-authorized debit (PAD) agreement in My Account or My Business Account

  1. Sign in to your account
  2. Select "Proceed to pay"
  3. Choose "Schedule a series of payments"
  4. Fill in the fields to set up and confirm your PAD agreement

Pay on behalf of someone else

Only legal representatives for individuals can schedule payments in Represent a Client.

Business representatives are not able schedule pre-authorized debits for businesses they represent.

Create a pre-authorized debit agreement in GST/HST Netfile

Businesses can also use pre-authorized debit through GST/HST Netfile to pay a balance due.

Create a pre-authorized debit agreement using EFILE

Through your bank or credit union

To make future-dated payments directly through your bank or credit union, contact your financial institution or pay by online banking.

Discuss a payment arrangement

If you need to discuss a balance you can't pay in full or on time, or want to set up an arrangement to pay your debt over the phone, you can call us to make a payment arrangement.

Change, cancel, or manage your scheduled payments

You can view, modify, cancel or skip PAD payments you have previously arranged in My Account or My Business Account. Any request you make to modify, cancel, or skip a payment must be made at least 5 days before the scheduled payment date.

In My Account (individuals)

  1. Go to the "Accounts and payments" section
  2. Under "Related services", select "Manage pre-authorized debit"

In My Business Account (businesses)

  1. Go to the "Business Overview" page
  2. Under the "Business balance and services" section, select "Manage pre-authorized debit"

Processing time

Your selected first payment date must be at least 5 business days from the date you create your PAD agreement.

  • Considered as paid: the same day as the scheduled withdrawal
  • Updated in your CRA account up to 2 business days after the payment is received
