Collection of COVID-19 Overpayments
The CRA collects all debts of COVID-19 individual benefits and business subsidies overpayments. This includes benefits issued by Service Canada. You can pay your debt in full online or with payments over time. Other options may also be possible if you are unable to pay.
Did you know?
- COVID-19 benefits raise your total income in the year you received them, so your access to other government benefits may be affected. When you repay COVID-19 overpayments, you can choose to claim a deduction on your income tax return in the year you repay the debt, or in the tax year you received the benefit, or you may also split the deduction between both years. You cannot deduct more than what you repaid.
- If you can not pay in full now, no interest or penalty will be applied on your COVID-19 benefits overpayment debt for individuals.
