2020 Northern Ontario Energy Credit (NOEC) - Calculation sheet for single individuals who have no children

Use this calculation if you were single on December 31, 2019, and do not have the care of a child under the age of 18 on the first day of the payment month.

You may have to use a different calculation sheet for a particular month if you become a parent of a child under the age of 18.

To be eligible for the NOEC, you, or someone on your behalf, paid at least one of the following amounts for your principal residence in Northern Ontario for 2019:

If your adjusted net income is:


  1. Subtract $42,201.00 from your adjusted family net income for 2019 (if negative, the result is zero).
  2. Multiply A by 1%.
  3. Subtract B from $157.00.
  4. Divide C by 12.

C is your annual NOEC entitlement.

D is your monthly NOEC entitlement.

If your annual NOEC amount plus, if applicable, your annual Ontario sales tax credit and Ontario energy and property tax credit is:

The first monthly 2020 Ontario trillium benefit payment, which includes any NOEC entitlement, will be issued on July 10, 2020.

However, if you made a choice on your 2019 return to wait to receive your 2020 OTB entitlement, it will be issued on June 10, 2021.
