Get ready to claim

Before submitting your claim, ensure that:

You need all of the above to file a claim for the CCUS ITC

If you meet all of the above criteria, you should also be aware of other considerations.

Other considerations

Changes to your project

If there have been changes to your project after project plan submission, you may need to submit a revised project plan.

Refer to: Project changes and impacts

Acquired property

If you acquired property before the first day of commercial operations of the project, it must also be verified by NRCan.

After costs have been incurred for CCUS property acquired before the first day of commercial operations of the project, NRCan must verify the CCUS property list, validated through the assessment of the final engineering design of the project.

Projects that include different types of eligible property

If your project includes different types of eligible property, you may be able to claim multiple ITCs for the same project.

Refer to: Claiming one or more ITCs

Avoid the reduced tax credit rate

You must elect to meet the labour requirements and attest that you have met the requirements to benefit from the regular credit rate for the ITC you are claiming.

If you elect to meet the labour requirements but fail to do so, there are financial consequences for non-compliance. Responsibility for satisfying the labour requirements is on the corporation claiming the credit or a partnership where at least one partner is claiming the CCUS ITC.

If you do not elect to meet the labour requirements, the credit rate is reduced by 10 percentage points.

The labour requirements apply to covered workers for work that is performed on or after November 28, 2023.
