Individuals eligible for the Climate Action Incentive

(For Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Alberta only)

Before you start

Pollution has a cost – it affects the air we breathe, our children’s health, and our economy. That’s why the Government of Canada has put a price on carbon pollution. The climate action incentive (CAI) is a refundable credit which consists of a basic amount and a 10% supplement for residents of small and rural communities in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Alberta. The credit is calculated on Schedule 14 and claimed on line 45110 of the T1 return.

An individual may claim the credit if they met any of the following conditions:

  • they were 18 years of age or older

  • they had a spouse or a common-law partner

  • they were a parent who lived with their child
