Types of assistance

If you have become severely disabled or have a permanent disability, there are several options to assist you in repaying your student loans:

  • The Severe Permanent Disability Benefit: You may be able to have your student loans cancelled. This benefit will help you if your disability prevents you from going to school or working for the rest of your life. Find out if you're eligible for the Severe Permanent Disability Benefit.
  • The Repayment Assistance Plan for Borrowers with a Permanent Disability (RAP-PD). This plan could reduce or replace your monthly student loan payments, depending on your financial situation. Your expenses related to your disability may help further reduce your payments.

Get an estimate of the amount of assistance you might receive through the two Repayment Assistance Plans by using the Repayment Assistance Estimator.
