Building international partnerships

The Government of Canada is committed to working with our global partners to complete the Work Programme for the Paris Agreement in 2018 so that global climate action is assured for generations to come. Canada will share expertise, best practices and lessons learned in climate action with officials from other countries, and discuss areas for potential collaboration and promote Canadian priorities.

Climate and Clean Air Coalition’s annual High Level Assembly

Minister McKenna chaired the Climate and Clean Air Coalition’s annual High Level Assembly. This meeting brought together countries that share the common goal of reducing pollutants that not only contribute to climate change, but also impact the air quality of millions of citizens around the world.

North American Climate Leaders meeting

Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. Climate Alliance, a bipartisan coalition of 15 U.S. Governors agreed to strengthen their climate initiatives through a new North American Climate Leadership Dialogue. The dialogue addressed topics including clean transportation and zero-emission vehicles, vehicle efficiency, clean technology, supporting clean power while reducing reliance on coal-fired electricity, carbon pricing initiatives, and reducing short-lived climate pollutants. They will share progress on these goals at the 2018 Global Climate Action Summit to be hosted by California this September.

Trilateral Meeting on Climate Action

Canada, China and the European Union come came together at COP 23 to advance implementation of the Paris Agreement and demonstrate continued commitment to global action. The three ministers agree on the importance of continued dialogue. The meeting was part of their ongoing international effort.

Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition Event

Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, co-chaired a panel discussion of the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition. This discussion brought together national and sub-national government officials, joined by business leaders and environmental stakeholders. Panelists shared their views on the objectives of the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition and what it would mean for their organizations.
