Health Canada uses Pinterest, a free content sharing service offered by an American company, as one tool in its efforts to communicate clearly, quickly and in an engaging manner with Canadians.
The Department currently holds one Pinterest account:
Healthy Canadians (English) / Canadiens en santé (French)
Feedback and interaction is highly encouraged. All comments will be read and any emerging themes or helpful suggestions will be referred to the appropriate Government of Canada staff. Although we are not able to reply individually to all messages, they will be handled on a case-by-case basis and responded to when deemed appropriate.
If we feel a comment or a question posed to the Government of Canada requires a response and/or a greater level of detail that is relevant to Canadians in general, we may develop a formal response and distribute the information through other channels such as our Web site or other social media channels. We will pay attention to emerging themes and helpful suggestions and look forward to this potential interaction.

Content of Boards and Posts
If you follow us, you can expect regular posts covering some or all of the following:
- Issues related to the health and safety of Canadian families, such as healthy eating, physical activity, product safety, environmental health, bullying and road safety;
- Recalls and Safety Alerts relevant to Canadian parents;
- Public health messages and social marketing campaign announcements relevant to Canadian parents.
- We may also occasionally repin content from other users we think may be of interest to Canadian parents of children between 0-16. Provided the content is available in both official languages, the content may be from the following organizations:
- Other government departments (specifically those directly part of the Healthy Canadians collaboration - Health Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada; Transport Canada; Public Safety Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency);
- Partnering organizations;
- Stakeholders and other non-profit organizations.
Frequency of Posts
Followers can expect up to 2 posts a day (in addition to repinned content). Be advised that there may be some periods where we have fewer postings than others (for example holidays and weekends) or no postings at all.
At this time, Healthy Canadians only follows other Government of Canada institutions and organizations which we believe are relevant to the mandate of our collaborative initiative - specifically, as it relates to the health and safety of Canadian families. This could include following Pinterest accounts of non-profit organizations, associations and other governmental agencies.
Healthy Canadians' decision to follow a particular Pinterest account does not imply endorsement of any kind.
Similarly, the appearance of a Pinterest user as a follower of a Healthy Canadians account does not imply endorsement.
We will take steps to remove or block a follower if that follower does not abide by Pinterest's Acceptable Use Policy.
We aim to update and monitor our Pinterest account during regular office hours between 9:00 A.M. - 5 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, Monday to Friday.
Pinterest may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for lack of service owing to Pinterest downtime.
Comments and Direct Messages
We welcome feedback and ideas from all our followers. All Comments and Direct Messages (DMs) will be read and any emerging themes or helpful suggestions will be passed to the relevant people in Health Canada or partner departments.
Although we are not able to reply individually to all the messages we receive via Pinterest, possible responses to Comments will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Please take note that we cannot provide medical advice, nor can we discuss issues of party politics.
We encourage the media to follow traditional channels to make a media request.
