Executive Summary

Government Electronic Directory Services 2.0 (GEDS 2.0) is an upgrade to the original GEDS. While the information available to the public remains the same, GEDS 2.0 introduces an internal database to public servants, My GEDS.

The MyGEDS data includes: personal photo, employee profile description, employee additional contacts, employee website links and employee competencies and competency search. Additionally, MyGEDS allows employee postings with Government of Canada 2.0 Tools (GCconnex, GCpedia and GCforums) to be displayed when viewing their entry in MyGEDS.

The Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) describes GEDS 2.0 with respect to the MyGEDS data for purposes of assessing privacy issues. From a privacy perspective, the personal information potentially shared with all public servants (personal photo, competencies, competency search, additional contacts, website links and employee profile description, etc.) is not publicly accessible and the risk was assessed as low. In addition, the residual risks from the Security Assessment and Authorization were mitigated to low.
