Roles and Responsibilities of Mentees

What is a mentee?

A mentee:

  • Is a public servant who is looking to develop their skillset in order to advance their public service career with the proper guidance and support of a mentor.
  • Should be ready and willing to build on their areas of improvement.
  • Should actively take on a variety of available training, and self-paced education and awareness recommended by their mentor.

Key activities

Once a mentee is paired with a mentor, the following are some key activities that a mentee could undertake:

  • mentees would meet with mentors to discuss and identify the parameters of the relationship including the objective and the goals moving forward along with the frequency and modality of their meetings
  • working with their mentors, mentees will explore and identify their areas of interest, strengths, areas for improvement and career aspirations
  • mentees should be open to constructive feedback from their mentor to ensure they develop the skillset required to navigate the public service
  • mentees may provide feedback to the departmental lead to ensure that the relationship with the mentor is progressing as planned
