Federal Speakers' Forum on Diversity and Inclusion: Overview
Through the Federal Speakers’ Forum on Diversity and Inclusion (the Forum), we want to support a more diverse and inclusive Government of Canada workforce. The Forum provides a platform for public servants to share their lived experience with diversity, inclusion, accessibility and other related topics. It is our hope that by sharing ideas and connections, we will open hearts and minds, build empathy and inspire everyone to take action in support of a more diverse and inclusive public service.
Voices of change
Our team is continually adding to a roster of volunteers from the public service. Our speakers come from a variety of regions, backgrounds and perspectives to speak on topics including, but not limited to: racialization, Indigeneity, accessibility, LGBTQ2+, mental health, ageism, feminism and allyship.
Inviting a speaker to your workplace event or staff meeting will help your organization to:
- learn about resources available
- reduce stigma and dispel myths and misconceptions
- raise awareness and create a common ground of understanding
- engage colleagues in conversations about diversity and inclusion
- learn to take action to create an accessible, diverse, and inclusive workplace
How we came to be
The Forum is building upon the success of the Federal Speakers’ Bureau on Mental Health (available only on the Government of Canada network), which was co‑founded by Danielle Caron and Jean-François Claude in 2016. The Bureau has since delivered over 400 testimonials, directly reaching more than 20,000 Government of Canada employees.
What sets us apart from other platforms is that we co-developed the design of the Forum with communities and networks of marginalized public servants with their input and needs at the very core of the program. We feel that this will lead to more responsive and effective outcomes.
The Forum assembles speakers across the federal public service who have a story to tell about the challenges they face relating to diversity and inclusion. We offer these services to federal organizations across the country.
The Forum is part of the Centre on Diversity and Inclusion at the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat.
