Background

Health Canada is working with our United States regulatory counterpart, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), to reduce the regulatory burden for health products. This is part of the action plan of the Canada-US Regulatory Cooperation Council.

In January 2013, Health Canada and the FDA entered into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement. The agreement authorizes our Health Products Food Branch and the FDA to work on a joint pilot to provide an electronic submissions gateway for industry. The joint pilot was completed in October 2013.

For regulatory transactions that can be currently sent to us through the gateway, consult the following guidance documents (available upon request) on the filing submissions electronically web page:

  • Preparation of regulatory activities in eCTD format
  • Preparation of regulatory activities in non-eCTD format
