Essential qualifications

Language requirements

Bilingual imperative — CCC/CCC

Education

Law Degree (LLB./JD)

Occupational Certification

Member in good standing of the Bar of one of the provinces or territories of Canada or of the Chambre des notaires du Québec

Experience

  • Significant* experience in dealing independently with complex** legal issues.

  • Significant* experience in providing strategic legal or policy advice on complex** issues to Directors or equivalent or above.

  • Significant* experience in preparing briefing material and providing verbal advice to Directors or equivalent or above.

  • Experience in coaching or mentoring junior counsel.

*Significant is understood to mean the depth and breadth of experience normally associated with at least 4 years of experience.

** Complex is understood as the scope and nature involving multiple stakeholders or multiple areas of law typically with no precedent and requiring the adaptation of existing frameworks to address the issues/problems.g

Other qualifications

  • Experience (at least 12 months) in the areas of law relevant to the position to be staffed.

  • Experience contributing to staffing processes.

  • Experience in supervision***

  • Experience in providing legal services to other government departments or agencies.

  • Experience in legislative drafting.

*** Includes the assigning and monitoring of work, evaluating and managing performance of employees or providing input on client needs for legal services and resulting human resource requirements for your unit, for one or more periods of at least 3 consecutive months.
