“Canadians have an obligation to help make the world a better and safer place. Not least, we owe it to ourselves to honour excellence and pursue it relentlessly. Canada must stand for the best in all fields of human endeavour. And we must be uncompromising in the pursuit of values that are the moral foundation of all great nations. That is my dream for my country: a Canada fair and generous, tolerant and just.”

About Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal
The Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal was built between 1824 and 1829 in the Gothic Revival style by the architect James O’Donnell. The West tower- named La Persévérance – was completed in 1841 and in 1848 became the home of a 10,900 kg bell named Jean-Baptiste. The East tower – named La Tempérance – was completed in 1843 and is home to a 10-bell carillon. A major restoration of the basilica has been in progress since 2020, its completion date is estimated to be in 2040.
