The Government of Canada and the Government of Manitoba held a national commemorative ceremony in memory of the Honourable Murray Sinclair, also known as Mazina Giizhik-iban, who passed away on November 4, 2024.
Information on the national commemorative ceremony
The ceremony took place on Sunday, November 10, at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg.
It was broadcasted live from Winnipeg on Canadian Heritage’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
Guests invited to the ceremony included family, friends, current and former government representatives and dignitaries as well as representatives of organizations to which the Honourable Murray Sinclair had a close connection.

Half-masting of the National Flag of Canada
The Government of Canada proceeded with a half-masting of the National Flag of Canada on the Peace Tower in Ottawa as well as on all federal buildings and establishments in Winnipeg from November 6 until sunset on November 10, and additionally in Ontario on November 10.
Pay homage
Canadians were invited to share their condolences by signing an online book of condolences.
It was also possible to sign a book of condolences in person at the Canada Life Centre during the ceremony.
