A Message from the Commissioner on the consultations and next steps for the Commission — The Future of Sport in Canada Commission
February 17, 2025
As we begin the new year, the Future of Sport in Canada Commission remains deeply committed to its mission of improving safe sport and the sport system in Canada. Our work continues to be focused on developing concrete recommendations that will bring about meaningful, lasting change for all Canadians and Canadian sport.
Since the launch of our public online submission portal, our team has hosted close to 300 meetings with individuals and groups from all corners of the sport community, including athletes, parents, coaches, officials, administrators, sport organizations, academics, and victims and survivors of maltreatment in sport.
Over the course of our consultations, we visited twelve cities across Canada, engaging with individuals and groups to hear about their experiences and perspectives in and with sport. These consultations have allowed us to gather a broad range of perspectives that will guide our recommendations moving forward.
On behalf of myself and the two Special Advisors, Dr. Andrew Pipe and Ms. Noni Classen, I want to express our gratitude to everyone who has come forward to share their insights and perspectives. For those who have not yet participated, we invite you to visit the Commission’s public online submission portal. Your input is essential in helping us create robust, well-informed recommendations to shape a safer, improved sport system in Canada.
Looking ahead, we are focused on the next steps in our work, including the launch of a public online survey to seek input from the public about their experiences with the Canadian sport system, the publication of our Preliminary Report, and the National Summit on the Future of Sport. The summit will offer participants the opportunity to discuss the recommendations in the Preliminary Report and further shape the future of safe sport in Canada.
Together, we can build a sport system that is safe, inclusive, and responds to the needs of all Canadians. Thank you for your continued engagement in this important process.
