A Message from the Commissioner on the conclusion of the Commission

March 31, 2026

As the work of the Future of Sport in Canada Commission has come to an end, I would like to reflect on the journey we have undertaken and express my deepest gratitude to all those who contributed to this important national effort.

Over the course of our mandate, we had the privilege of hearing from thousands of Canadians from across the country. Athletes, parents, coaches, administrators, experts, and advocates alike shared their experiences, insights, and perspectives with openness and frankness. In particular, I want to acknowledge the courage of victims and survivors of maltreatment in sport who came forward. Their voices were essential in shaping our understanding and guiding our work.

This Commission was established at a pivotal moment for sport in Canada. What we heard confirmed both the deep value of sport in our society and the urgent need for systemic change. The Final Report reflects the realities shared with us and sets out findings, calls to action but, more importantly, a clear path forward to build a sport system that is safe, inclusive, accessible, and worthy of the trust Canadians place in it.

While the Commission’s mandate has concluded, the work it has set in motion must continue. Lasting change will require sustained commitment, collaboration, and leadership from governments, sport organizations, and all those who care about the future of sport in Canada.

It has been an honour to serve as Commissioner. I remain hopeful that the contributions of all who participated in this process will lead to a stronger, safer, and more inclusive sport system for current and future generations.
