New guidance on AI in the hiring process
With the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI), the PSC has launched a guide to help hiring managers navigate its use in hiring. The guide highlights opportunities, clarifies accountability and identifies key considerations, including mitigating the potential for bias and the need for clear communication with candidates.

Student hiring and conditional letters of offer
Hiring students has proven to be a strategic solution to meet the future needs of the public service. Students represent a steady pipeline of talent, enabling us to build a diverse workforce. Conditional job offers make it easier to retain students after graduation, especially when recruiting specialized skill sets and filling critical positions.
Did you know? Departmental Annual Reporting
Each year in March, the PSC provides instructions for organizational reporting, due on May 1. The basics of the request are outlined in Annex D of the Appointment Delegation and Accountability Instrument. Results help us assess staffing trends, areas of risk, organizational compliance with the Public Service Employment Act and the need for any follow-up.
Amendments to the Public Service Employment Regulations
Regulatory amendments took effect on January 29, establishing new lay-off requirements to increase transparency and address biases and barriers in the assessment process. As well, as of April 1, some priority entitlements will be lengthened for people with disabilities. Refer to PSC resources (accessible only on the Government of Canada network) for guidance and more information.
New employment equity reports
Our latest reports reveal progress in promotion rates for visible minorities but persistent gaps for Indigenous Peoples and persons with disabilities. Persons with disabilities also remain underrepresented in acting appointments across all occupational categories, while visible minorities face gaps in technical roles.
