A Message from the Commissioner on the National Summit and Preliminary Report

April 8, 2025

Following the news of the extension of our mandate and activities last March, I am pleased to announce that the National Summit on the Future of Sport will be taking place on September 8 and 9, 2025 and September 11 and 12, 2025, in Ottawa, Ontario.

The National Summit will provide an opportunity for invited participants to discuss the findings and recommendations regarding safe sport and the sport system in Canada outlined in the Preliminary Report. The Preliminary Report will be published in late August 2025 and will serve as the foundation for our conversations at the National Summit.

The National Summit will be divided into 2 sessions. The first session will be reserved for victims and survivors of maltreatment in sport. The second session will include athletes, parents, coaches, administrators, support personnel, sport organizations, government officials, academics, advocates and subject matter experts. Victims and survivors of maltreatment in sport can decide to attend either the first session or the second session.

Both sessions will consist of group meetings and roundtable discussions and will cover the same themes. These sessions are by-invitation only.

Given the limited space available, I encourage members of the sport community to express their interest in attending the National Summit by completing this form as soon as possible. The deadline to fill out the form is April 29, 2025, and all those who filled out the form will be contacted in May 2025.

Please note that completing the form does not guarantee an invitation to attend the National Summit. The Commission will carefully review all responses to ensure diverse representation from across the sport community.

For those unable to attend the National Summit, and for those who do not want to participate in a group setting, an online form platform will be made available to provide feedback on the findings and recommendations following the publication of the Preliminary Report in late August 2025.

I am heartened by the strong engagement from Canadians thus far, and I look forward to continuing this important work together. Your ongoing participation and support are vital as the Commission enters this new phase of its mandate.
