Meet the Governor General Designate

On July 6, 2021, the Prime Minister of Canada announced that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II approved the appointment of Ms. Mary Simon as the 30th Governor General of Canada since Confederation.

 What is a Governor General Designate?

The Governor General Designate is the person who has been appointed as Governor General, but who has not yet been sworn-in.

 When will the Governor General Designate officially assume her duties?

Ms. Mary Simon will assume her new duties as Governor General after the installation ceremony, which will take place on July 26, 2021.
