I support Canadian books!
Every day, Canadians are invited to promote Canadian books and support local culture by discovering work by Anglophone, Francophone and Indigenous authors in their original versions or translated into their preferred official language. Reading has the power to build bridges and bring communities together.
Simple ways to support Canadian books
- Buy a Canadian book at your local bookstore
- Borrow a Canadian book from your public library
- Listen to a Canadian audiobook
- Follow and share content from Canadian authors on social media
How can you recognize a Canadian book?
From the first pages of the book, you’ll notice at least 1 of the following clues:
- a unique 13-digit ISBN (International Standard Book Number) assigned by Library and Archives Canada or Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec
- the name of the Canadian publisher
- the “Canada” wordmark
Did you know?
Canadian Heritage is proud to promote a wide variety of Canadian authors through the Canada Book Fund (CBF), which plays a crucial role in supporting Canadian publishing houses and organizations related to the book industry.
In 2024–2025, Canadian Heritage provided funding to 257 Canadian book publishers, including 19 from official language minority communities.
Each year, publishers supported by the CBF produce approximately 6,000 new books by Canadian authors and employ approximately 2,500 Canadians.
