We have lost a true statesman. A man who could find ways to work with those he didn't always agree with. A man who valued action over words. A man who thought about a better, fairer Canada. A man who was honest, humble and worthy of respect. Deepest condolences to his loved ones and the rest of his Canadian family.
RIP Ed. Broadbent Thanks for your service to the NDP Party and to Canadians all across our country.
When I was just 10 years old, Ed Broadbent was the first politician to attract my attention. Even at that tender age, I thought him to be an honest, caring, and completely reasonable public servant. We need more like him in today's world.
A wonderful man and a great inspiration as to how politician should conduct themselves.
Having grown up in Oshawa in the 1960s and '70s, I remember Ed Broadbent as a great leader of the NDP and a strong voice for autoworkers and other working people. He spoke up for justice, equality and dignity for all, and delivered his message with respect and a warm smile. Thanks Ed, for all you did for us!
Thank you for your service. God bless.
Pride of Oshawa .... we were so proud of your political journey in our city and as an NDP leader in Canada. As a teen I worked on your campaigns and was thrilled when my dad nominated you to be the NDP candidate for Oshawa in 1968. Our paths crossed many times over the years. Your intelligent, measured contributions to debates were respected by many and many Canadians wished you could have served as our Prime Minister.
Rest in peace, Ed. You will be fondly remembered.
Now that was a Great Canadian!! Someone who made a positive difference in the lives of others! So long Ed, peace be with you.
Your service to the people of Canada will always be remembered
Although I didn't agree with many of your platforms you were needed to help advance Canada down the right road
Que le Seigneur très haut accepte son âme auprès de lui, mes condoléances sincères à toute sa famille
Merci pour tout ce que vous avez fait pour le Canada.
You are and will always be... A True Canadian. Thank YOU for being a shining example to all Canadian's. Your care for OUR Country was second to none. You were the only political persona I ever really wanted to listen to ... Rest in Peace Sir
RIP Sir hopefully you had a good life. I'm sure you did. Condolences to your family. RIP Sir.
Sorry to hear.

Thank you Ed for bringing the New Democrats so much forward to become eventually the leading and Government party of Canada.
In the early 70's , my sister helped me with a petition to have a traffic light installed at the corner of Kenora and Barton streets in Hamilton after a number of accidents kept happening. Ed saw to it that this happened after a number of “no’s” He was an amazing man and will be so very much missed
You helped so many for so long. So long bother Ed Broadbent we'll miss you so much.
May more Canadians in the political sphere follow his example. Mes sincères condoléances à sa famille.
To your family and friends my deepest condolences. Thank you for all you contributed to the work and study of social democracy in my lifetime. Our country was the better for it. My wish is that your work and efforts will continue from those of us who learned from you.

Ed was married to my grand-mother's sister Lucille. I have the fondest memories of spending Christmas with them and Christine when I was a little girl. I remember him as a warm man who always teased us and made us laugh. I was always so proud to call him my great uncle! My great aunt Lucille was also such a warm and fun loving person to be around. They are both dearly missed.
A true Canadian that many will remember for years to come! Bless you gb
Mr. Broadbent was a familiar name in our home. My late father admired Mr. Broadbent's dedication to improving the lives of all Canadians and was a long time supporter of the NDP. Our deepest condolences to family, friends, and all Canadians. RIP Mr. Broadbent and thank you.
So sad to hear the news of Ed Broadbent's passing. He was, for me, the best introduction to the NDP and its tenets. I met him once and found him to be a softspoken, unassuming, lovely person. I hope he and Jack Layton (another of my favourites) are up there solving Canada's problems together. They'd make a wonderful team! One more of the great ones gone. Rest in peace, Ed.
Monsieur Broadbent fut un homme engagé dans la communauté il a droit à tous les honneurs.
The honorable Mr. Broadbent, you will never be forgotten. You made Canada a better place by your values and ethics and gave inspiration to Canadians.
Helluva guy. He had the capacity to speak so that people listened. He will be remembered for keeping the NDP strong and providing a path forward far into the future for a fair and an equitable Canada. I will miss knowing he’s in this world.
Thank you, Ed. Your work has inspired me and countless others to become active in their communities. Your legacy will last centuries!
I have very fond memories during the time I worked for you on the Hill in the 1980’s. You fought for all Canadians and commanded a level of respect in the House of Commons which is not too often seen. You worked tirelessly and were truly interested in bettering the lives of ordinary Canadians. Ed, you will be missed but your legacy lives on.
Thank you Sir for the opportunity you've given to Foreign nationals to live and experience what this beautiful country is all about

Thank you for your service and your unwavering commitment to Canada. You fought for the working class people.
Ed put relationships first. He cared deeply about the people who worked with him, his students, political colleagues and his NDP family. I expect there are thousands like me, who are feeling his death in a very personal way. Ed will go down in history as one of Canada’s great political leaders. He believed deeply in humanity and the capacity for each of us to rise above our selfish needs to see the beauty of community. He never cared about titles only how we used our power for the benefit all.

Mr. Broadbent came to our door when seeking election and talked with my parent. He was genuinely active in promoting the interests of ordinary citizens, particularly in making Canada one of the most egalitarian countries in the world.
Ed Broadbent's lifetime commitment to social and economic justice and equality for all was never devoid of passion and always grounded in facts in promoting the case for change. If Canadians want to honour his legacy, we need to champion the causes of his Institute.

He will be remembered and missed by myself.
Mr. Broadbent changed my life 10 years ago when I stumbled upon his course, "Citizenship, Rights, and Democracy" as a soon-to-be graduate of uOttawa. It was incredible to hear his perspective on historical events I was learning about in textbooks for three hours a week. Rest in Peace, Mr. Broadbent, thank you so much for all the work you led to make our world a better place.
Thank you for your service. Your vision, hopes and dreams for this country will inspire those willing to walk in your footsteps.
Mr. Broadbent was NDP leader at a time when I was only starting to learn about Canada's government/Parliament and how it worked. I can still remember seeing him on 'This week in Parliament' squaring off in debates with Pierre Trudeau. Mr. Broadbent genuinely represented the working class that the NDP of his time stood for. Rest easy now Ed - you will be missed.
