(MCK) "How does it feel to be the first humanist chaplain in the CAF's history?"

It's really quite an honour, but I hope that I won't be the only one for long.

So, I'm recruiting! Hello! My name is Captain Marie-Claire Khadij and I'm the first humanist chaplain of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Today, we're gonna play 60 seconds. "What is your role in the Canadian Armed Forces?"

I'm a chaplain, so I contributed to the spiritual well-being of Defence team's members and their families.

"Spirituality" here is used as a wide term to encompass search for values, meaning, purpose, etc.

"What is humanism?" Humanism is a world view that is deeply rooted in human rights, human dignity, reason, science and compassion.

It's a secular philosophy of life, so it's non-theistic, and it affirms the responsibility of each human being to find meaning for their own life and to contribute to an ethical society.

"What makes you smile?"

As chaplains, we see members going through very rough times. And watching them, you know, access resources, get support and overcome these obstacles and find happiness again, that's what really makes me smile.

And that's it for today!
