S1 Taylor: Hi I’m 1st – Oh my gosh, no! I keep messing up. Okay, re-do!

S1 Taylor: Hi, I’m Sailor 1st Class Lia Taylor, I’m a Port Inspection Diver here on Great Slave Lake in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and we’re about to do the 60 Second Challenge. Let’s get into it.

So, what is your proudest moment in uniform?

When I got my dolphins after my dive course.

If you could choose another trade in the CAF what would it be?

I wouldn’t choose any other trade. Port Inspection Diving is pretty cool.

Is this your first visit to the Arctic, and what was your first thought upon arrival?

This is my first visit to the Arctic. My first thought were where were the polar bears.

How long have you been diving for?

I’ve been diving for about ten months now.

What was your longest/deepest dive?

My longest dive was about two and a half hours in Comox Lake, and my deepest dive was around 27 metres.

What’s the most interesting thing about spending time in Canada’s North?

Probably getting to know the community and people here, and also it’s just a different way of life.

If you didn’t have to sleep, how would you spend your extra time?

Probably going around dog sledding, everything that you want to do in the Territories.

Why did you join the CAF?

My grandfather was in the Navy, and he was a Naval Communicator.

What would you tell someone who wants to be a diver in the CAF?

Definitely just do it. You’ll never regret it.
