Transcript

(GG) On Wednesday January 26th, Defence Team members are invited to watch a virtual panel event for Bell Let’s Talk Day.

Today we’re joined by Captain (Navy) Iain Beck and Lieutenant-Colonel Audrey Hudon from Canadian Forces Health Services to discuss some of the topics the panel will touch upon and the importance of talking about and de-stigmatizing mental health as an organization.

Thanks for joining us today, Captain (Navy) Beck and Lieutenant-Colonel Hudon.

I want to start off by asking: "What can Defence team members can expect from this discussion that's taking place on the 26th?"

(CNB) Thanks for having us today. This is a great opportunity and thank you for the question. What will happen is that they'll receive a series of questions from Defence team members and provide answers. Fortunately, it gives us a moment, as individuals, to pause out of our busier lives to reflect on our current situation and our personal situation and to... to know that we are not alone. We just have to ask for help. Audrey, what do you think?

(LCH) Sir, I think that it's also an opportunity to show how common needs and requests for mental health services are, since the majority of people will need such services at some point in their lives. And also to remind everyone that mental health is an integral part of our global health.

(GG) Thank you. And why do you find discussions, like the one taking place on Bell Let's Talk Day, helpful?

(CNB) These discussions help us better understand mental health issues and challenges and the struggles some of our... our colleagues have on a day-to-day basis. I think having these conversations helps reduce the stigma of mental illness. And it helps break down some of the barriers to care.

(GG) Is there anything you'd like to add?

(LCH) Mental health is a very important aspect of our daily life, and investing into our mental health really means investing into our future.

(GG) Thank you both so much for joining us today and I look forward to tuning in the panel.

(CNB, LCH) Thank you.
