International Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate women inspiring women; lifting each other up; supporting our successes; mentoring; and encouraging one another.
Strong, relentless, and with unique lived experiences, we continue to excel in our careers, shatter barriers, and have our voices heard as equals.
Women in all their forms belong in our Defence Team. We belong.
We all have valuable contributions to make.
DM: The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is “Women who inspire women.” Sources of inspiration are everywhere within this Defence Team, both public service employees and women in uniform.
To every woman in this Defence Team, we thank you for all you do.
Every day, you perform critical work in operations, science, policy, health care, and communications - effectively everywhere in our organizations.
Excellence is everywhere, at every level and rank, It’s not a matter of firsts, or exceptions, or one-offs. You continue to achieve new heights within our organization, inspiring your teammates as you go.
This is something to celebrate and be proud of, not just today, but every day.
CDS: To every woman here at National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces: Thank you for all that you have and continue to accomplish - every day. We are here to champion and celebrate all of you!
I fully believe that a culture of inclusiveness starts at the top but I also believe leaders can’t direct or order culture change. It’s a team effort.
Today, and every day, I challenge you to really listen to the experiences of women across our Defence Team.
Challenge myths, assumptions – that hold us back, at a time when we must all move forward together, as we continue to build a better, more inclusive Canadian Armed Forces.
We must all enable the vital work required to make lasting change, so that we all have an opportunity to serve Canada – with excellence.
Champion for Women: Your dedication, accomplishments, innovative ideas, character, and contributions at every level of the Defence Team is driving momentum for positive change.
And together we will keep it going.
So look to your mentors, your heroes, your role models, your colleagues and let’s celebrate this International Women’s Day together with the women who inspire, today and every day.
