The ability to collect, understand and disseminate relevant information and intelligence has become fundamental to the military’s ability to succeed on operations. Accurate and timely intelligence is a critical commodity for the Defence team, and the other federal departments that we work with.

The Defence Intelligence Enterprise is rising to this challenge through the Defence Intelligence Enterprise Renewal. This multi-year program will create a modern, agile, integrated and technologically-enabled intelligence enterprise.

Started as a review in 2019, the DIER has moved from planning to action and is starting to implement twenty-five optimization measures in three broad categories - People, Technology, and Process & Governance. Our goal: to ensure that relevant, timely and accurate intelligence is provided to enable operations on the ground and to inform strategic decision makers.

The DIER team has been working on initiatives that are being actioned in the short term, and will continue to progress through different initiatives in the coming years.

These strategic changes will include better intelligence prioritization, integration of existing intelligence systems and processes, more deliberate engagement with the primary reserves, improved interoperability with allies and partners, modernization of the intelligence workforce, and liaison with Industry and Academia.

From how intelligence is requested, processed, and provided, this project will result in an entirely new enterprise.

The DIER will rationalize defence intelligence, empowering collectors and analysts to continue to provide world-class intelligence. With these improvements strategic leaders will have the decision advantage and our deployed personnel on operations will have intelligence overmatch.
