January 24, 2022 - Defence Stories

Way to go! Nice work! Keep it up!

Do you know of a co-worker who deserves a special shout-out or are you looking for a way to recognize someone in this current online environment? Due to its popularity last year, the Virtual Shout-out program is back for 2022. It’s a quick and easy way for you to publicly recognize a colleague, or team of colleagues, for a job well done.

What is a Virtual Shout-out?

The Virtual Shout-outs are coordinated by the Defence Team’s Corporate Awards and Recognition Secretariat (CARS). It is open to all members of the Defence Team.

Messages should be brief and include:

Here’s how to submit a Virtual Shout-out:

Note that shout-out recipients will be given the option to “opt out” of having their message displayed on the Bulletin Board on the Maple Leaf, HR Go RH app, and the Defence Team intranet, and submissions can remain anonymous.

Don’t delay! Virtually shout-out your hard-working colleagues today!

I would like to send a BIG Shout-Out to Maj. Gerren Martin. Maj. Martin is one of the most well rounded members of the CAF that I’ve ever met. Not only is he our Base Surgeon, he is also a clinician, mentor to junior medical members, the acting CO and Mental Health Coordinator of our busy clinic. He also is the dad of small boys, supports his nurse wife and eases the very heavy workload of a small Alberta community hospital. Not only does he have an Atlas weight to carry, he does all of this with aplomb. We are so fortunate to have this amazing person at the clinic rudder. Doc, you are one of the best. Words will never be enough to tell you just how amazing you really are. - Theresa Slavik

I want to give a virtual shout out to my colleagues in Mapping and Charting Establishment within the TREx program (yes, it’s a great name!). My onboarding into the Defence Team and public service was smooth and efficient thanks to many in the unit I am sure. I want to particularly say thanks to Jim Blanchette, my team leader. Your communication and openness made me feel welcome and supported. I feel lucky to have received training from Trina Kuuskivi whose subject area knowledge is rivalled only by her glowing personality! Also shout out to David Avery, Justin Cornect, Tucker Wilson and Gregory Metcalfe who have all been a blast to work with.
- Jakob Kuzyk

Shout-out to Tyler Kitchen of HR(Civ) who has been the acting Technical Advisor at Trusted Source since April 2021. He went above and beyond for my training to ensure that I would be able to continue working remotely while on an OutCan and has made himself readily available ever since. He is extremely enthusiastic about his work and compensation in general and this spreads throughout our team on a daily basis. Plus he knows his stuff! We are lucky to have him at Trusted Source.
- Sandra Nielsen

I want to give a HUGE Shout-out to William Seifried for covering the Wainwright Release section during an unanticipated, unusually busy summer. He was left alone for the full summer and provided administration and support within strict deadlines to our many releasing members. Thank you for your diligence and hard work. It is so appreciated!
- Shauna O’Dell

We wanted to take the time to send out a massive shout out to Josée Lamoureux for all of your hard work and dedication to your team in Labour Relations! The effort and sacrifice you have made with regard to providing continued support to your team in the past year is greatly appreciated and has not gone unnoticed. Your positive attitude and accessibility goes a long way in helping to ensure everyone on the team has the necessary support to be effective in their roles. The dedication you have to your team and to your clients speaks volumes about yourself, both as a leader of a large team, but also as an individual. We are incredibly lucky to have you as the Manager of our team, and we wish you continued success in your role!

Our entire Transition Services Team at TC Gagetown would like to give a grand old shout out to Mrs. Sonya Armstrong, our Transition Services Manager. We, her staff, have a combined amount of CAF and public service years that equate to 145 years, without hesitation we can easily articulate that she is the future of the public service. Since being employed to implement the Military to Civilian Transition process for 5 CDSG Gagetown on behalf of CAF TU NB-PE and the CAF TG she has not once faltered in the execution of her duties. She has an uncanny ability to foster a team spirit to promote teamwork that inspires and empowers her team members to strive for the same in portraying their full potential all the time. The positive impact that she brings to this organization with her strategic level thinking, tactical creativity and administrative intelligence is staggering to witness during the uncertain environment that we see within DND and CAF communities today. These are but a few attributes that Sonya brings to this team on a daily basis, for this we, the 66ers want to give her a huge Bravo Zulu.
